The final presentation in the Warwickshire District Sesquicentenary grants has taken place at the Rugby District Scout Council Campsite, where a great deal of work has been undertaken since the original grant request was made.
The project nominated was to repair the Campsite access road – the 220 metre long drive needed repairing at a cost of some £4,000 to £5,000. The Rugby District Campsite (Coton Campsite) has been used for camping, scouting, guiding, forest school and many other uses for over 40 years. Its use has been declining because the access route to it is an old quarry road and is now hazardous for vehicle access. Repairing the access road will now have ensured its future use for years to come.
The presentation was made by Ill Comp Paul Harrison, the recently retired Warwickshire District Deputy District Grand Master, to the Rugby District Campsite Lead – Mr Bradley Sargent and the Development Lead, Mr David Colledge. The grant was for £2500 which went towards the overall cost of the project.
This nomination was proposed by Ill Comp Paul Harrison, who is a member of Rocheberie Council Number 232, which meets at the Rugby Masonic Centre, and a long standing member of many other units that meet in Rugby and other centres.
The Warwickshire District, together with the recipient extend grateful thanks to the R&SM Sesquicentenary management team for accepting this and other nominations.
