At the Vesey Council Installation late in May, Mediterranean temperatures caused jackets &
waistcoats to be abandoned. In a very happy meeting, Comp Adrian Middleton, Principal
Conductor of the Work, was installed as Thrice Illustrious Master by Ill Comp David Evans in his
well known expert style.
Resignations have meant that some reorganisation was necessary.
Earlier in the meeting, Ill Comp David Wavell had been elected as a joining member, and had
also agreed to be immediately appointed as Deputy Master, for which he is fully experienced in
the District of Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. He holds Grand Rank, and is Past
Deputy District Grand Director of Ceremonies in his former District. Comp Roger Cook, Captain
of the Guard, was appointed in his absence at the Isle of Man TT races as Principal Conductor
of the Work. Ill Comp James Freakley stood in for him as Captain of the Guard, and later as
PCW.
The TIM and newly appointed Officers were congratulated by the District Grand Master,
accompanied by Ill Comp Peter Stokes, District Deputy Master.
Comp Andy Leonard, having only been received last May, was appointed as Conductor of the Council.
The remainder of the offices were completed with little difficulty and will be shown in the Year Book.
The photograph below shows some of those present, from the left being Ill Comp David Evans, R Ill
Peter Wellings, DGM, E Comp Peter Stokes, Ill Comp David Wavell, Ill Comp Adrian Middleton, TIM, and Comp Andy Leonard, Conductor of the Council.

At the Festive Board, despite the heat and with less attending than had been anticipated, a very happy
atmosphere prevailed. We are not too sure exactly what part Ill Comp James Freakley was playing, but
he was obviously in good form acting it would seem as Steward. It may have had something to do with
the Director of Ceremonies wand falling apart during the preceding meeting.

The next meeting of the Council is on Wednesday 22nd July when no doubt further enjoyment and
frivolity is anticipated.
