District Grand Council of Warwickshire

Royal & Select Masters

A short Wretham Council meeting, at which Comp Mick Towns, who had been unavoidably absent at the October  Installation, was invested as Deputy Master.  After the meeting, all present assembled in the dining room with their Ladies, and prepared for an entertaining evening celebrating the birth of the Scottish poet Rabbie Burns.

As is the usual practice, Ill Comp Rob Ashford, attired in full Scottish dress with bagpipes, piped in the Haggis to loud applause and presented the address to the Haggis.

Ill Norrie Wright presented the toast to the ‘skin’ and the Immortal Memory of Bro Rabbie Burns, and gave a condensed history of the poet’s short but full life.  Following the meal, the toast to the District Grand Master was given by Ill Comp Chris Wanley, in which he used AI to help compose it in the languager which Rabbie Burns himself would have used, much to the amusement of all present.

R Ill Comp Peter Wellings responded in his usual relaxed style and confirmed that a superb evening had been enjoyed by all.  Comp Mick Towns proposed the toast to the Thrice Illustrious Master, and Comp Keith Watkins proposed the toast to the Ladies with 11 present for the occasion.  The only way to finish the evening was with Burns own ‘Auld Lang Syne’.
